are animal, vegetable, and mineral. What do these surfaces cover? What
is beneath?...
...These paintings are very much about sensing the surface. Yet
can a surface make a painting? Others have shown this to be possible.
For the viewer, surface can be an entry, leading to the wordless meaning
beneath it."
